Teach at Wisenford

Teaching at Wisenford Is a Profession.

We are building a faculty of educators who care about teaching, not simply delivering lessons.

What It Takes to Teach at Wisenford

A high bar, consistently applied.

We welcome teachers from every country and professional background. What matters is meeting the Wisenford standard, not where you're from.

Education & Credentials

Credentials establish a foundation. Teaching expertise turns that foundation into learning.

Minimum requirement

  • Bachelor's degree (any field) plus a recognized TEFL, DELTA, or equivalent certification
  • OR a Bachelor's degree in English, Linguistics, or Education

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Applied Linguistics, Education, etc.)
  • DELTA certification (Cambridge English Language Teaching Certificate)
  • Subject-specific certifications (IELTS examiner, Cambridge examiner, etc.)

Professional Teaching Experience

Experience builds what credentials alone cannot: classroom presence, judgment, and the ability to adapt to what a learner actually needs.

Minimum requirement

  • 2+ years of professional English teaching in recognized institutions or programs
  • Sustained teaching experience, not occasional tutoring

Preferred

  • 5+ years in varied teaching contexts (universities, corporate training, exam prep)
  • International teaching experience
  • Experience mentoring other teachers

Language Proficiency

Teachers model the language they teach, so demonstrated proficiency, not where someone is from, is the standard.

Requirement

  • Advanced, C2-level English proficiency, or an equivalent command of the language taught
  • Verified through assessment

Subject Expertise

Deep knowledge of what you teach turns a lesson plan into real learning.

Depending on specialization

  • General English: breadth across all language skills and CEFR levels
  • Speaking: expertise in pronunciation, fluency, and confidence coaching
  • IELTS: examiner certification or equivalent, with a record of score improvement
  • Academic English: background in academic writing and research conventions
  • Professional English: experience in corporate or professional environments

Assessment Capability

Assessment is one of the hardest parts of teaching well: knowing what to look for, and how to communicate it without discouraging.

Requirement

  • Trained in assessment principles and fair evaluation
  • Understands CEFR assessment criteria
  • Gives clear, specific feedback

Verification

  • Assessment reviewed regularly
  • Learner feedback on clarity and fairness
  • Calibration with other Wisenford assessors

Values Alignment

Skills can be trained. We look for teachers who already believe in their learners and in the institution.

Requirement

  • Committed to learner-centered education
  • A growth mindset, for learners and for their own teaching
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Professional integrity

Verification

  • Interview assessment
  • Learner feedback
  • Peer review

How We Keep Standards High

Continuous evaluation. Transparency. Accountability.

Classroom Observation

All teachers are observed regularly by Academic Leads trained in the observation protocol, with feedback on:

  • Learner engagement and participation
  • Clarity of instruction
  • Responsiveness to learner needs
  • Effective use of technology
  • Assessment accuracy

Outcome: detailed feedback and a development plan.

Learner Feedback

Every learner can give feedback on their teacher, on:

  • Clarity of instruction
  • Responsiveness to questions
  • Encouragement and support
  • Fairness of assessment

Consistent, credible feedback shapes each teacher's development plan.

Assessment Accuracy

We check accuracy through second grading of a sample of assignments, calibration meetings across teachers, and review of learner progress data.

The goal is consistency: the same standard, wherever a learner is assessed.

Peer Review

Teachers review each other's materials and approach. Senior and Master teachers mentor newer teachers, and professional communities form around specializations.

Purpose: knowledge sharing, quality improvement, and mentorship.

Annual Evaluation

A holistic review of teaching effectiveness, learner outcomes, assessment fairness, and professional development.

Outcomes: continued employment, advancement, or a support plan, and a career path discussion.
